The Hyundai i10 is the epitome of the traditional city car – it is short in length yet tall in height and comes with five doors as standard. It is also a car designed for low costs and ease of use.
The Hyundai i10 is a second-generation car model and comes with two different petrol engines – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, you can also have the 1.2 litre engine with an automatic gearbox as the 1.0-litre is manual only. The car has refined many features of the previous model, with wind and engine noise being suppressed with minimal tyre roar.
Inside the car there is plenty of headroom and leg room for most passengers, there is also a decent-sized cubby to store you phone as well as some cup holders next to the handbrake lever with larger ones in the doors. However, the driver’s seat does not have height adjustment and the steering wheel only moves up and down, not in and out but this is a very common deficiency in city cars. Nevertheless, the rear seats also fold down in a 60/40 split by pulling levers down next to the headrests which does provide for a very big boot space. Furthermore, the foot pedals and dashboard are well thought out with all of the common buttons within easy reach.
In terms of infotainment the car goes for very simple features, with only a CD Player, FM Radio and USB port on the base models, though Bluetooth and DAB radio is available on the SE trim and Premium SE adds a 7” infotainment screen which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring apps. In terms of additional safety features, only the premium trim comes with rear parking sensors.
Overall for a city car the Hyundai i10 is a great example which offers low operating costs and a comfortable driving experience.
